Ability to do the work of a(n) Toxic Materials Handler (Explosives Operator) without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common Toxic Material Handler helper duties. I can understand work related documents, such as work instructions, work orders, standard operating procedures, etc. I can operate a pallet jack. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Work requires prolonged standing and continuous physical activity in handling, pulling, or pushing objects. As a team member, lifts items weighing 15-44 pounds approximately 20-50 percent of the time. Working Conditions:
Work is performed outside or inside. When working outside, toxic materials handlers are often exposed to the sun or to inclement for extended periods of time. The worker is required to wear protective clothing which is specially made and treated for working on explosives and toxins, including full-length underwear, safety shoes, glasses, gas masks, impermeable rubber suits, apron, rubber gloves, and coveralls, when working in the chemical storage areas. Is subject to profuse perspiration and extreme fatigue when working in protective clothing. Visibility is restricted during operations due to the necessity of wearing the gas mask while handling toxic agents. Clothing must be removed and decontaminated and showers taken before eating and before going home. Training Requirement:
Incumbent must successfully complete TRAINING in hazardous waste management procedures within six (6) months after initial appointment, and annually. Incumbent will work in supervised situations until all training requirements have been met.
